About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join the Short Stay Unit at UBC Hospital in Vancouver, BC. This role practices within a client and family-centred care model and adheres to the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice. The LPN will work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary care team, performing full-scope practical nursing functions for clients with predictable outcomes in a designated specialty area. This includes assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting client care, as well as providing support to clients and their families. The LPN will also support the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or complex care needs that exceed the LPN scope of practice. Maintaining and advancing clinical competence according to BCCNM standards is essential. Requirements

  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full scope of practical nursing functions for clients with predictable outcomes within a designated area of specialty.
  • Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document client care.
  • Provide support to clients and their families.
  • Work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team.
  • Support the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or where the acuity or complexity of care requires an advanced level of knowledge and skill beyond the scope of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • Maintain and advance clinical competence pursuant to the standards of practice of BCCNM for Licensed Practical Nurses.
