About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in this role is responsible for managing the walk-in medication clinic and nurse line, managing the injection clinics, and performing additional nursing duties as required and assigned within an outpatient mental health clinic. The position operates within the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) model of care, emphasizing an innovative, team-based approach and whole-person care for individuals with complex mental health and substance use challenges. Family & Children's Services aims to heal hurting children, strengthen families, and provide hope and recovery for those battling mental illness and addiction.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Licensed Practical Nursing Program.
  • Current license as an LPN in the State of Oklahoma.
  • Knowledge of professional LPN practice care techniques and medical procedures, medical supplies, sanitation and personal hygiene; and of nutrition.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, and applying nursing care techniques working with clients with mental illness and co-occurring disorders.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Skill in exercising judgment, initiative, self-control, and patience in following detailed or written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain a sympathetic and harmonious relationship with consumers with mental illness and co-occurring disorders.
  • Reliable transportation is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with clients with mental illness and/or substance abuse is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Walk-in Medication Clinic and Nurse Line: Complete vitals for consumers needing medication assistance or feeling unwell, document vitals, assist with calling in orders to pharmacies, assist with speaking to prescribers for orders, help consumers follow through with plans (e.g., prescription orders, appointments), and complete documentation of consumer needs and plan execution. Respond to Nurse Line messages within the same day or by noon the next business day.
  • Manage Injection Clinics: Complete vitals, obtain and review prescriber injection orders, verify dosage changes, administer injections, re-assess vitals and consumers post-injection, schedule next injection appointments, prioritize injections related to prescriber appointments, maintain a calendar for injection consumers, schedule injections in Anasazi, review and update medication records, ensure adequate supplies for the nursing office, obtain and provide medication education materials, monitor time frames, educate consumers on maintaining scheduled injections and medications, provide medication education individually and in groups, communicate daily with medical team members, complete prior authorizations, and perform phlebotomy when ordered.
  • Check in with RN Supervisor prior to leaving for lunch or end of day to ensure all tasks and consumers are properly cared for.
  • Work at multiple clinic locations based on operational and staffing needs, floating between assigned locations (Graves, Gatesway, and Lapidus Center) as needed.
  • Complete documentation clearly for prescribers and flag any vitals outside normal limits.
  • Spin down samples and refrigerate, document procedure in patient chart, and ensure samples are taken downstairs for pick up every day by 5pm.
