About The Position

This Nurse Residency Program is designed for new graduates or LPNs with less than one year of nursing experience. The program aims to provide a strong foundation for launching a nursing career by combining foundational and specialty-specific clinical core curriculum, quality classes, simulation, one-on-one skills validation, hands-on application with clinical mentors, and professional development. The role involves attending quality and core curriculum classes, participating in professional development workshops and peer support groups, and completing all clinical competencies and validation requirements. The Nurse Resident works under the supervision of the Clinical Education Team and a licensed Registered Nurse, refining nursing knowledge and skills while actively participating in managing clinical situations.

Requirements

Completion of an LPN program recognized by the State Board of Nursing.
Candidates with greater than twelve (12) months LPN experience are not eligible to participate.
Holds a current LPN compact/multistate license recognized by the NCSBN Compact State or is licensed to practice as an LPN in the state the team member is working.
If an LPN team member working in this position obtains RN licensure, Prisma Health will accept RN licensure for a limited time until the team member can be placed in an RN position.
Team members should immediately notify their manager and Talent Acquisition if they are scheduled to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam or have obtained RN licensure.

In lieu of completion of a LPN program, will accept program equivalency recognized by the State Board of Nursing.

Responsibilities

Attend all quality and core curriculum classes.
Actively participate in professional development workshops and peer support groups.
Successfully complete all clinical competencies and validation requirements of the Nurse Residency Program.
Collect patient data and complete required forms with appropriate responses according to unit standards.
Identify patient’s problems/needs and communicate with the RN.
Review and record latest diagnostic results.
Perform patient care under the direct supervision of the licensed RN.
Participate in the interdisciplinary care team to provide input on the plan of care.
Make referrals to multidisciplinary support services under the direct supervision of the licensed RN.
Provide treatments/procedures and other care as prescribed and according to patient care standards.
Demonstrate understanding of age-related characteristics and needs of patients served.
Explain nursing procedures.
Provide discharge teaching.
Identify emergency situations and escalate to the RN.
Act as an advocate for patient care with other health care personnel.
Evaluate patient care measures instituted.
Understand and demonstrate respect for patient rights.
Utilize established mechanisms for management of ethical issues in patient care under the direct supervision of the licensed RN.
Record patient care delivered as planned and any variation, with appropriate rationale.
Make and record observations related to impending or associated problems.
Implement nursing measures related to impending or associated problems under the direct supervision of the licensed RN.
Integrate cost-effective measures into nursing practice.
Recognize unit problems and take responsibility for escalating to the RN.
Demonstrate active participation in QI processes.
Comply with hospital expectations to meet staffing demands based on patient care needs.
Comply with policies addressing safe working conditions.
Monitor unsafe working conditions.
Recognize inappropriate and/or ineffective patient care management, resolve issue/problem and complete written reports.
Fulfill call for unit as assigned and adjust staffing for census (volume) and acuity under the direct supervision of the licensed RN.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Adhere to policy and procedure requirements of the organization including, but not limited to licensure renewal, assigned training, employee health screenings, time and attendance policy, dress code policy, patient confidentiality, infection control, medication administration.
