Under direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) performs nursing services in the care and treatment of patients. This role involves providing nursing care activities consistent with education, training, and licensure according to an established health care plan, as delegated by the registered nurse or physician. The LPN will direct or escort patients, prepare patients, make observations, collect data, and report information. They will perform physical and physiologic measurements, serve as a liaison between patient and provider, administer and document medications, and assist with the interpretation of patient-related data. The LPN will also participate in recording and reporting responsibilities, document findings, review and document procedures, medications, supplies, or additional testing, and triage and document patient phone calls. Additionally, the LPN will clean and stock examination rooms, participate in clinical research studies, team meetings, and continuous quality improvement activities, and maintain knowledge of care teams for coordination of patient care.
