About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join the Medical Clinical Resource Team at Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver, BC. This role operates within a client and family-centred care model and adheres to the standards of practice set by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). The LPN will perform full-scope practical nursing functions for clients with predictable outcomes, including assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of client care. They will also provide support to clients and their families. In collaboration with an interdisciplinary care team and under general supervision, the LPN will support Registered Nurses in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or complex care needs that exceed the standard LPN scope of practice. The position requires maintaining and advancing clinical competence according to BCCNM standards. The Medical Clinical Resource Team (CRT) is a vital part of VCH's nursing services, providing care to diverse patient populations across acute medical units at Vancouver General Hospital. CRT LPNs are assigned to various clinical units to meet staffing needs, respond to patient acuity, fill vacancies, and address other operational requirements. The team offers an on-site orientation program led by experienced professionals and educators, with opportunities for skill development and mentorship.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs full scope of practical nursing functions for clients with predictable outcomes within a designated area of specialty.
  • Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents client care.
  • Provides support to clients and their families.
  • Supports the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or where the acuity or complexity of care requires an advanced level of knowledge and skill beyond the scope of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • Maintains and advances clinical competence pursuant to the standards of practice of BCCNM for Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • Responds to needs based on patient acuity, replacement for vacancies and other operational needs.
  • Provides high quality care to patients.
