About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join the Medical Clinical Resource team at Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver, BC. This role is part of the provincial implementation of minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs), an initiative aimed at enhancing nursing practice and strengthening quality of care. The Clinical Resource Team (CRT) provides nursing services to a wide range of patient populations across acute medical patient care programs. CRT staff are assigned to various clinical units to meet staffing requirements and organizational needs, responding to patient acuity, vacancies, and other operational demands. New CRT team members receive an on-site orientation program led by experienced healthcare professionals and educators. The CRT offers opportunities for skill and expertise growth and focuses on mentoring nurses.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Practices within the context of a client and family centred care model and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • Working independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team, performs full scope of practical nursing functions for clients with predictable outcomes within a designated area of specialty.
  • Assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting client care.
  • Providing support to clients and their families.
  • Working collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team and under general supervision, supports the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or where the acuity or complexity of care requires an advanced level of knowledge and skill beyond the scope of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • Maintains and advances clinical competence pursuant to the standards of practice of BCCNM for Licenced Practical Nurses.
  • Performs a full range of professional duties and provide high quality care to patients.
