Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - General Surgery - Casual
About The Position
Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join their General Surgery team on a casual basis. This role is part of VCH's commitment to enhancing nursing practice and quality of care through the provincial implementation of minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs). The LPN will work as a member of an interdisciplinary care team, performing full-scope practical nursing functions for clients with predictable outcomes within the designated specialty area. The position involves assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting client care, as well as providing support to clients and their families. The LPN will also support the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or complex care needs. Maintaining and advancing clinical competence according to the standards of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses is essential.
Requirements
- Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
Responsibilities
- Work independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team.
- Perform full scope of practical nursing functions for clients with predictable outcomes within a designated area of specialty.
- Assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document client care.
- Provide support to clients and their families.
- Support the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or where the acuity or complexity of care requires an advanced level of knowledge and skill beyond the scope of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.
- Maintain and advance clinical competence pursuant to the standards of practice of BCCNM for Licenced Practical Nurses.
