Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Crisis Receiving Center
About The Position
The Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board's BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center is dedicated to serving individuals experiencing acute mental health crises. The center provides a comprehensive range of urgent behavioral health services, including crisis intervention, therapy, medication management, and suicide prevention services. Unlike traditional emergency departments, the facility is designed to offer a calm, therapeutic environment that promotes stabilization, recovery, and compassionate care. Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board is hiring LPNs to work at the BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center located in Hampton. This position supports safe, accurate medication services for adults receiving behavioral health and substance use treatment, partnering closely with the clinic psychiatrist and care team.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited LPN nursing program
- One year of medication administration experience in substance abuse treatment, psychiatric care, or long-term care (including dispensing narcotic medication)
Responsibilities
- Medication ordering/dispensing, administration and documentation (including controlled substances and methadone when applicable)
- Routine physical and mental health nursing assessments
- Supportive counseling during care encounters
- Intake and follow-up interviews
- Maintaining inventories
- Completing required records and reports
- Reviewing handoff notes, MARs, and any new or time-sensitive orders
- Prioritizing medication passes and monitoring needs for the shift
- Coordinating with the on-call provider as needed
- Answering routine medication questions
- Keeping documentation current
- Checking in with clients to support comfort and stability
- Completing brief reassessments
- Updating charts after any status changes
- Reconciling counts, confirming secure storage, and preparing medication-related paperwork so orders, inventory, and disposal processes remain compliant through the night.
