About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to work at Heiltsuk Hospital in Bella Bella, BC. This role involves practicing in accordance with the standards set by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and within a client and family-centred care model. The LPN will perform full scope of practical nursing functions for clients with predictable outcomes, including assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of client care. They will also provide support to clients and their families. In collaboration with an interdisciplinary care team and under general supervision, the LPN will assist the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or complex needs. The position requires maintaining and advancing clinical competence according to BCCNM standards. Heiltsuk Hospital is located in Bella Bella, BC, a community with 7 acute beds, 7 long term care beds, and a 24/7 emergency department, along with laboratory and diagnostic imaging services, telehealth, and specialty clinics. The healthcare team includes physicians, RNs, LPNs, PCAs, technologists, pharmacists, and support staff.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full scope of practical nursing functions as outlined by BCCNM for clients with predictable outcomes within a designated area of specialty.
  • Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document client care.
  • Provide support to clients and their families.
  • Assist the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or where the acuity or complexity of care requires an advanced level of knowledge and skill beyond the scope of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.
  • Maintain and advance clinical competence pursuant to the standards of practice of BCCNM.
