Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Acute Spinal Unit
About The Position
Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join the Acute Spinal Unit at Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver, BC. This role operates within a client and family-centred care model and adheres to the standards of practice set by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). The LPN will perform the full scope of practical nursing functions for clients with predictable outcomes, including assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of client care. They will also provide support to clients and their families. In collaboration with an interdisciplinary care team and under general supervision, the LPN will support the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or complex care needs. The position requires maintaining and advancing clinical competence according to BCCNM standards.
Requirements
- Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
Responsibilities
- Performing full scope of practical nursing functions for clients with predictable outcomes within a designated area of specialty.
- Assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting client care.
- Providing support to clients and their families.
- Supporting the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes or where the acuity or complexity of care requires an advanced level of knowledge and skill beyond the scope of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.
- Maintaining and advancing clinical competence pursuant to the standards of practice of BCCNM for Licenced Practical Nurses.
