This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, C.M. Tucker JR. Nurse Care Center- Roddey Pavilion, 2200 Harden Street Columbia, SC 29203. As the Licensed Practical Nurse, Institutional you will be responsible for the nursing care of residents on a unit. You will direct and supervise the Certified Nursing Assistants in giving nursing care.

Requirements

  • Licensure as a licensed practical nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing and at least one (1) year of nursing experience.
  • Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Ability to see, hear at normal volumes, stand, walk, reach, pull, stoop, bend and climb at least two (2) flights of stairs.
  • Ability to tolerate noise level and circulate in patient areas for long periods.
  • Must be able to work with repetitive patient behaviors.
  • May function as a charge nurse in the absence of a registered nurse.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
  • Know the practical nursing procedures, sanitation, person hygiene, and essential health and safety practices.
  • Have knowledge of anatomy.
  • Be able to maintain attention to detail.
  • Be able to make accurate technical and physical observations of patients.
  • Be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Be able to maintain correct medical documentation.
  • Have knowledge of relevant federal and state regulation and laws.
  • Be able to work effectively with people from various socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with healthcare team members.
  • Be able to lift and move patients.

Responsibilities

  • Administer medications, treatments and perform other nursing procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of nursing care by observing residents, reporting observations to charge person, and accurately document observations.
  • Make frequent nursing rounds, supervise nursing care, and evaluate and maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for residents.
  • Promote optimum comfort, rest, and rehabilitative nursing care for residents.
  • Assess residents and participate in resident care planning.
  • Assist in coordination and evaluation of CNAs by effective assignments, supervision, and completion of evaluation and counseling.
