The Medical Assistant assists clinic providers in examining and treating patients according to established standards and practices, while maintaining patient confidentiality. The role may also involve assisting with front-office responsibilities and other clinic needs. This is a safety-sensitive position, and duties may change as needed. The position supports patient flow and care by obtaining histories and vital signs, preparing patients and exam rooms, assisting with procedures, administering provider-ordered medications and treatments, performing diagnostic and CLIA-waived laboratory tests, and processing specimens. The Medical Assistant documents services and results, coordinates callbacks, referrals, testing, and follow-up appointments, maintains supplies and equipment, and assists with registration and clerical work. The role may involve exposure to patients and infectious diseases, unpredictable situations, interruptions, irregular hours, and a fast-paced environment. Physical duties include frequent sitting, walking, and standing; occasional bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and traveling; and the ability to lift 15–20 pounds. The employee may need to transport patients by wheelchair or stretcher, handle emergency situations, and wear protective equipment as necessary.
