About The Position

The Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) is seeking Licensed Practical Nurse 2s to provide skilled nursing care, medication administration, and health education. The LPN2 will perform duties within their scope of practice under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed healthcare provider, ensuring timely, appropriate, and trauma-informed medical support for youth. This role contributes to DCYF’s goals of accountability, healing, and successful reentry by addressing health needs essential to youth development and rehabilitation.

Requirements

Current Washington State Licensed Practical Nurse license.
Graduation from an accredited practical nursing program.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
The ability to take action to learn and grow.
The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.

Nice To Haves

Experience in correctional, behavioral health, or adolescent health settings.
Familiarity with medication administration in secure or institutional environments.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

Prepare, administer, and document medications (scheduled, PRN, and controlled substances).
Conduct unit-based medication passes.
Monitor for side effects, adverse reactions, and therapeutic effectiveness; maintain medication security and controlled substance counts.
Perform focused nursing assessments (vital signs, symptoms, and observations for stable conditions).
Provides direct care; collect laboratory specimens.
Assist providers with exams, procedures, and treatments under the direction of an RN or licensed healthcare provider and within LPN scope of practice.
Carry out delegated nursing interventions.
Document all care, interventions, and medication administration in the electronic health record (EHR).
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, infection control standards, and DCYF policies.
