About The Position
This role involves delivering skilled nursing interventions for acute and chronic conditions, conducting patient assessments, administering medications, and performing various clinical procedures. The position also includes health education, documentation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and emergency response. The Licensed Practical Nurse will serve as a campus health resource, providing guidance on self-care and disease prevention. Mentorship may be provided to student interns. Maintaining accurate and confidential electronic medical records in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA is crucial. The role requires collaboration with healthcare providers, facilitating referrals, and ensuring immunization compliance. Emergency preparedness and adherence to CPR/AED protocols are essential.
Requirements
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
- Proficiency in administering oral, intramuscular, and subcutaneous medications.
- Experience with venipuncture and phlebotomy.
- Knowledge of sterile field preparation and minor procedure assistance.
- Experience with EKGs, wound irrigation, and oxygen therapy.
- Ability to administer immunizations.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records management.
- Understanding of HIPAA and FERPA compliance.
- Current CPR / AED certification.

Responsibilities
- Deliver skilled nursing interventions for acute illnesses, injuries, and the stabilization of chronic conditions.
- Conduct telephone and in-person triage utilizing standardized protocols to determine appropriate care levels.
- Evaluate chief complaints, gather medical histories, and measure vital signs.
- Administer oral, intramuscular, and subcutaneous medications as ordered by providers under licensed supervision.
- Perform venipuncture for blood specimens and handle processing.
- Prepare sterile fields, assemble surgical trays, and assist with minor procedures, wound irrigation, EKGs, guaiac tests, glucose monitoring, and oxygen therapy.
- Administer routine, travel, and public health immunizations required for college matriculation.
- Serve as a healthcare information resource for students and the wider campus community.
- Counsel students on health maintenance, disease prevention, and independent self-care strategies.
- In the event there are student interns, provide instruction and demonstrations in clinical procedures in both a front and back office environment.
- Maintain precise, confidential electronic medical records adhering to HIPAA and FERPA compliance.
- Ensure all patient interactions, treatments, and communications are logged accurately.
- Oversee and audit student immunization records to ensure compliance with institutional policies.
- Partner with physicians, physician assistants, and mental health professionals to execute cohesive patient care plans.
- Facilitate seamless referrals to internal campus departments and external community resources for complex medical or psychological needs.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and campus departments regarding health issues while maintaining strict confidentiality per state (WAC / RCW) and federal (FERPA / HIPAA) laws and statutes.
- Maintain active readiness to respond to clinical emergencies implementing current CPR / AED protocols.
