About The Position

Nielsen Eye Center is a leading ophthalmology and eye care practice specializing in LASIK, cataract surgery, and comprehensive vision care. We are seeking a Licensed Optician who is passionate about patient service, enjoys eyewear styling and sales, and thrives in a collaborative medical office environment. This is a great opportunity to work alongside a highly respected team of surgeons, optometrists, and optical professionals. The Licensed Optician plays a key role in our optical department by assisting patients with frame selection, lens education, and optical measurements, while maintaining compliance with professional and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will have strong customer service skills, a caring and personable approach, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Active Massachusetts State Licensure as an Optician.
  • 2+ years of optical dispensing and/or medical billing experience.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
  • Strong sales, customer service, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Reliable transportation for travel between office locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous retail or optical sales experience.
  • Bilingual skills in Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Spanish, or Portuguese are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret prescriptions and advise patients on suitable frames, lenses, and coatings based on visual needs and lifestyle.
  • Accurately measure patients and ensure proper frame fit and optical alignment.
  • Educate patients on eyewear care, lens options, and contact lens use.
  • Prepare and verify orders for eyeglasses and contact lenses for accuracy and quality.
  • Manage inventory, frame board organization, and product displays.
  • Verify vision insurance eligibility and benefits for eyewear and contact lenses.
  • Collaborate with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and optical staff to ensure a smooth patient experience.
  • Maintain knowledge of current eyewear trends and optical technology.
