About The Position

This position is located at Johnston Correctional Institution, Smithfield, NC. Johnston Correctional Institution is a minimum-custody prison housing male offenders. Johnston Correctional Institution serves as the hub for healthcare for the male inmate population. The facility is designed to house a maximum capacity of 668 offenders, including 28 restrictive housing beds. The Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) provides a full spectrum of psychological and comprehensive clinical services to offenders within a correctional setting. Work involves applying theory in the diagnosis and treatment of mental and emotional disorders, providing individual and group counseling to offenders and serving as a liaison between correctional staff and offenders at Johnston Correctional Institution. The License Mental Health Professional will provide direct psychological services to offenders with a range of emotional and behavioral issues from situational stressors to those with severe and persistent mental illness and personality disorders. Such services include mental health triage/screening, crisis intervention, mental health assessment and treatment planning, suicide/self-injury assessment and management and Restrictive Housing reviews and evaluations.

Requirements

  • Must hold an independent license to practice as a mental health clinical practitioner in North Carolina or have met the requirements to be licensed in North Carolina at the associate or provisional level as a mental health clinical practitioner.
  • Master's degree in psychology, clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, clinical counseling or human services related field from an appropriately accredited educational institution.

  • Documented knowledge of psychological, emotional and interpersonal dynamics that contribute to distress and mental health diagnosis.
  • Demonstrated experience to evaluated, screen and diagnose clients for appropriate treatment; formulate clear goal-oriented treatment plans, and document progress of client treatment.
