About The Position

The Center for Healthy Minds & Practice (CHaMP) at the University of Florida College of Medicine (UFCOM) and UF Health is seeking a full-time licensed mental health professional to join its team. This role will focus on cultivating psychological wellbeing among UFCOM and UF Health faculty, residents, and staff, supporting their personal and professional development. The counselor will provide short-term therapy (in-person and telehealth), lead group support sessions (including critical incident debriefings and ongoing support groups), assist with the clinician peer support program, and address emerging situations. The primary responsibility is to offer clinical services to individuals employed by the University of Florida College of Medicine/UF Health. Applicants should have experience with a variety of psychosocial concerns (e.g., burnout, job stress, marital/familial stress, substance use, interpersonal difficulties) and mental health issues of varying severity, with the ability to make referrals to community services. Experience working with doctoral-level professionals, particularly healthcare workers, is preferred. Collaboration with other resources such as the UF Employee Assistance Program, Care for Colleagues, UFCOM Director of Wellness Programs, and GatorCare Wellness is expected. This position may be designated as an essential employee with additional responsibilities during emergencies.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in social work, psychology, mental health counseling, or related field.
  • All State of Florida requirements met for a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).
  • Two years post-degree supervised experience.
  • Experience working with a wide range of psychosocial (e.g., burnout/job stress, marital/familial stress, substance use concerns, interpersonal difficulties) and mental health concerns at varying levels of severity.
  • Ability to refer to community services as needed.
  • Professionals with one of the following credentials are qualified to provide psychosocial counseling: Social worker with a master’s degree or a Ph.D. in social work from a Certified Social Work Education accredited school of social work. Registered nurse with advanced specialized counseling education and training as a clinical nurse specialist or certified psychiatric nurse. Professional licensed to provide clinical, counseling, and psychotherapy services by the Florida Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance (e.g., LMHC, LMFT). Counselor with a master’s degree in counseling. Psychologist with a master’s or Ph.D. in psychology.

  • Ability to work with a range of educational backgrounds — from high school through doctoral-level.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct time-limited individual counseling for UFCOM and UF Health faculty, residents, and staff with psychological, emotional, career, and/or relationship concerns.
  • Manage cases, including coordination with UF/UF Health stakeholders and external providers, referrals, addressing emerging situations, and follow-up care.
  • Deliver group-based interventions through ongoing support groups, planned programs, and post-incident debriefings.
  • Handle administrative tasks, including preparing, reviewing, and signing clinical documentation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
