About The Position

This position is accountable for delivering patient care according to established policies and procedures. The position is responsible for carrying out direct physical cares, administration of medications and treatments according to physician's orders, documentation of resident needs and conditions, and when indicated, direction of other non-licensed personnel on the nursing unit. This position may be designated as "responsible/ charge" on a unit on a particular shift, but is accountable to the LPN for monitoring and RN for supervision. Communicate on a regular basis with the charge nurse regarding observations and suggestions of problem areas, resident and employee activities, concerns, needs, conditions, etc. Observe residents' medical, mental and emotional conditions and communicate changes to appropriate staff. When indicated is responsible for notifying the supervisor and family members according to prescribed procedures. Assist in the admission and orientation of new residents to the facility; Provide explanation and offer understanding of nursing care to residents and families according to procedures and provide support relating to medical care as appropriate. Maintain clinical charts and medication records and other medical and department records. Responsible for security of medications on the unit. Prepare, administer and record medications according to physicians' orders. Assure the inventory of medications, re-ordering as needed. Count and record controlled substances. Is responsible to notify the supervisor when resident's medication is about to be stopped or prescriptions are expiring.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Licensed Medication Nursing Aide in appropriate state
  • Completion of a state approved program "Medication Administration for Unlicensed Personnel", including testing of skills by a licensed nurse at the facility and presentation of certificate of completion from the above course.
  • 1 year experience as a Licensed Nursing Assistant
  • Minimum of 6 months full time experience as a nursing assistant in a long-term geriatric setting.
  • Proven leadership skills

  • Ability to treat patient information confidentially
  • Well organized
  • Ability to understand and show compassion to senior adults
  • Ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively in English with residents, family and staff.
