About The Position

This position is primarily responsible for processing and analyzing a variety of biological samples obtained from patients under the direction of a general supervisor, department supervisor or designated technologist.

Requirements

  • Approved course in Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited college or other recognized institution preferred.
  • An Associate Degree is required.
  • Must be licensed as a Medical Laboratory Technician by the State of Tennessee.
  • Clinical Laboratory experience is desired, but consideration may be given to recent graduates.
  • Candidates with Associate's Degree are preferred.
  • Knowledge of hospital and departmental policies and procedures and the ability to operate technical equipment as acquired through orientation.
  • The Medical Laboratory Technician must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Uses appropriate techniques to obtain and maintain integrity of specimen in relation to test performed
  • Maintains identification of specimens keeping records and documentation as required
  • Prepares specimens for analysis and retains samples according to procedure.
  • Analyzes samples by following protocol in Chemistry, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Hematology, or other areas of the Lab
  • Monitors and maintains quality control and technical accuracy of tests, procedures, and final reports
  • Operates and calibrates laboratory instruments to ensure accuracy
