About The Position

GFL Environmental is looking for a Licensed Heavy Duty Technician to join our team in Calgary, AB! Our Licensed Technicians safely operate, repair, and maintain GFL Environmental owned commercial diesel and alternative fuel trucks, and heavy equipment to ensure its ability to operate safely. This is an afternoon shift position working Monday to Thursday, 1:30pm-10pm, Friday 11am-7:30pm. Now paying industry leading wages! Requirements

  • Journeyman designation or equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Provide own tools and willingness to acquire tools as required for jobs.
  • Ability to perform CVI inspections, and familiarity with transportation regulation.
  • Knowledge of tools required to perform repairs and maintenance on commercial vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to follow schedules, instructions, technical manuals and maintenance guidelines, and other procedures associated with the maintenance of company fleet assets.
  • Must be computer literate and willing and able to be trained in software systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across various levels of the organization and communicate with customers and external vendors.
  • Ability to be a self-starter capable of working effectively in a team environment or as an individual contributor.
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located is required.
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide valid documentation confirming their eligibility to work in the country where the job is located prior to their start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Red Seal is preferred but not required.
  • Experience using diagnostic software is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair complex, modern CNG and diesel engines, and advanced electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform repairs and preventive maintenance tasks such as PM and safety inspections.
  • Complete required record keeping associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
  • Review, plan and schedule work as required.
  • Mentor apprentice technicians and provide training to complete their apprenticeship program.
  • Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to company safety procedures.
  • Ensure shop equipment and tools are kept in a safe operating condition.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with company safety standards.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
