Requirements

  • Bachelors in a biological or clinical laboratory science required
  • Current NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist licensure required
  • Must demonstrate an aptitude for performance of laboratory services
  • Must have the aptitude to learn to make appropriate judgments about the clinical significance of laboratory data
  • Have proven skills to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer
  • Ability to work in a high standard, stressful environment
  • Ability to communicate accurately and concisely
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, report and maintain records of patient test results.
  • Perform chemiluminescent immunoassays on serum samples using automated equipment; this includes calibrating, cleaning and maintaining the equipment as required by the manufacturer.
  • Perform semen analyses including sperm count, sperm motility, sperm morphology and viability.
  • Perform routine sperm preps for inseminations, maintaining sterile technique throughout.
  • Maintain records that demonstrate that PT samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies; document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
  • Follow the laboratory’s established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance.
  • Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results; must correct the problems and/or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, and clinical consultant or laboratory director.
  • Study and review laboratory operating manual and become familiar with quality assurance, quality control, safety procedures and operating guidelines for performing laboratory services.
  • Study and review OSHA requirements for safe laboratory operation, always wear appropriate lab personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a protective, safe laboratory environment.
  • Participate in laboratory operations as directed.
  • Attend laboratory meetings as requested.
  • Participate in laboratory proficiency testing programs.
  • Attend skill enhancement programs as directed by supervisor.
  • Provide assistance and support to RMA of NY satellite laboratories as requested by Laboratory Manager.
