Requirements
- Bachelors in a biological or clinical laboratory science required
- Current NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist licensure required
- Must demonstrate an aptitude for performance of laboratory services
- Must have the aptitude to learn to make appropriate judgments about the clinical significance of laboratory data
- Have proven skills to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer
- Ability to work in a high standard, stressful environment
- Ability to communicate accurately and concisely
- Excellent interpersonal skills
Responsibilities
- Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, report and maintain records of patient test results.
- Perform chemiluminescent immunoassays on serum samples using automated equipment; this includes calibrating, cleaning and maintaining the equipment as required by the manufacturer.
- Perform semen analyses including sperm count, sperm motility, sperm morphology and viability.
- Perform routine sperm preps for inseminations, maintaining sterile technique throughout.
- Maintain records that demonstrate that PT samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
- Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies; document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
- Follow the laboratory’s established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance.
- Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results; must correct the problems and/or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, and clinical consultant or laboratory director.
- Study and review laboratory operating manual and become familiar with quality assurance, quality control, safety procedures and operating guidelines for performing laboratory services.
- Study and review OSHA requirements for safe laboratory operation, always wear appropriate lab personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a protective, safe laboratory environment.
- Participate in laboratory operations as directed.
- Attend laboratory meetings as requested.
- Participate in laboratory proficiency testing programs.
- Attend skill enhancement programs as directed by supervisor.
- Provide assistance and support to RMA of NY satellite laboratories as requested by Laboratory Manager.
