About The Position

Innovative Therapeutic Services (ITS) is seeking a Licensed Behavioral Health Professional (Substance Abuse) to provide mental health and substance use services to children and adolescents in a juvenile detention center setting. This role focuses on screening, assessment, documentation, and psychoeducational interventions for justice-involved youth with substance use concerns. The ideal candidate is a licensed substance abuse professional in Maryland who is experienced in working with adolescents, knowledgeable in standardized screening tools, and committed to delivering ethical, trauma-informed care. Onboarding and required training are expected to begin in February 2026, with staff assuming their full clinical roles effective March 1, 2026 .

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work
  • Required Licensure: LCADC, active and in good standing in the state of Maryland
  • Minimum of 3 years of counseling experience
  • Required experience working with children and adolescents in a juvenile detention center setting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet-based systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willing to complete a federal and state background check
  • Reliable transportation

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Provide substance use and behavioral health services to children and adolescents in a juvenile detention center setting
  • Review each SASSI-A2 within 24 hours of youth intake
  • Re-administer the SASSI-A2 within 24 hours if results are invalid, the youth refuses screening, or intake screening was not completed
  • Complete substance abuse screening notes and document all clinical contact in the youth’s record
  • Conduct comprehensive substance use assessments as needed
  • Prepare biopsychosocial assessments in compliance with Department-approved formats
  • Document clinical recommendations in the youth’s record and communicate findings to case managers to support care coordination
  • Facilitate weekly one-hour psychoeducational groups for youth
  • Attend clinical staff meetings as scheduled
  • Perform other duties as assigned
