About The Position

Innovative Therapeutic Services (ITS) is seeking a Licensed Behavioral Health Professional to provide mental health services to children and adolescents in a juvenile detention center setting. This role involves working with youth diagnosed with a range of Axis I disorders, including anxiety, depression, and ADHD. The ideal candidate is a licensed behavioral health professional in Maryland with experience in juvenile justice settings, committed to delivering trauma-informed, ethical, and high-quality care. Onboarding and required training are expected to begin in February 2026, with staff assuming their full clinical roles effective March 1, 2026 . As part of our strategic expansion, ITS is extending mental health services throughout Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) centers across Maryland. This expansion reflects our mission to increase access to high-quality behavioral health care for justice-involved youth while creating meaningful opportunities for clinicians to contribute to systems-level impact, professional growth, and community-based change.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work
  • Licensed in the state of Maryland in good standing (LCSWC, LMSW, LGPC, or LCPC)
  • Minimum of 3 years counseling experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet-based systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willing to complete a federal and state background check
  • Reliable transportation

Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual therapy and assessments for 8–12 youth per week
  • Perform suicide risk screenings within 2 hours of admission
  • Complete psychosocial intake screenings, including the MAYSI-2, within 24 hours of admission
  • Monitor the suicide log daily and provide daily visits for youth on suicide watch
  • Review housing classification within 24 hours
  • Follow-up for prior victimization within 14 days
  • Sign all required clinical documentation
  • Provide individual, group, and family engagement services, including supportive counseling at least every other week for 45–60 minutes
  • Conduct weekly psychoeducational groups for youth (1 hour)
  • Complete seclusion observation forms and crisis behavioral health referral forms in the youth’s record the same day
  • Attend clinical staff meetings as scheduled
  • Perform other duties as assigned
