About The Position

The Licensed Athletic Trainer (L/ATC) will be responsible for attending all assigned sports activities, assisting team physicians as directed, maintaining written records on all athletes, and consulting with team physicians and coaches regarding injured athlete's status. This role involves coverage of athletic events, rendering treatment as outlined by a physician, assessing injured athletes, making proper referrals to physicians, and communicating with team coaches.

Requirements

  • Graduation from approved college/university.
  • Eligible/Certified through National Athletic Trainers Association/BOC.
  • Eligible/Licensed through Alabama Board of Athletic Trainers.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to positive work demands and the overall team effort of the Sports Medicine team.
  • Abide by ethics and standards established by the NATA.
  • Attend athletic events as assigned, assisting team physician when in attendance.
  • Maintain communication with coaching staff regarding status of injured players and schedule changes.
  • Record progress on injured athletes on established forms.
  • Refer athletic injuries to physician for diagnosis and treatment referral.
  • Perform treatments as ordered by physician.
  • Maintain proper equipment and supplies pertinent for coverage of athletic events.
  • Maintain proper attitude of encouragement toward all athletes/staff.
  • Attend/participate in department/clinic in-services.
  • Submit in writing to Sports Medicine Coordinator a record of incident or accident with self, patient/athlete or other employee as soon as it occurs.
  • Participates as a member of the health care team.
  • Transports patients, maintains records, equipment and supplies as indicated.
  • Observes and records patient condition, reactions and responses. Report appropriate information to physician/ clinical director.
  • Accepts responsibility for the patient's personal care and environment throughout treatment.
  • Follows established procedures and safety precautions in the use of heat, cold, light, water, sound, electricity and massage.
  • Carries out physician prescribed rehabilitation protocols.
  • Carries out treatment utilizing any rehabilitation equipment for which he/she has received adequate instruction in its use and has demonstrated adequate understanding and competency.
  • Cares for braces, prostheses, bandages and other assistive devices.
  • Acts as an assistant to the team physician when appropriate during assessment, stabilization and transport of injured athlete.
  • Informs immediate supervisor of pertinent information relative to Sports Medicine.
  • Complies with procedures for maintenance of supplies and equipment.
  • Performs duties as assigned by Sports Medicine Coordinator and/or Clinical Director.
  • Participates in appropriate conference and in-service programs for purpose of Continuing Education.
