About The Position

Ryder is seeking a skilled and experienced Licensed 310T Diesel Mechanic for a full-time, permanent position in Brampton. This role involves performing major and technically difficult diagnostics, repairs, and overhauls on vehicles, ensuring quality, efficiency, and reliability. The Technician IV is expected to provide the highest level of expertise, mentor other technicians, and contribute to leadership and training within the shop. The position may involve specialization in areas like refrigeration or electronics and requires a combination of extensive vehicle transportation experience, ASE certifications, and/or multiple Ryder Qualifications. The role also includes performing standard and preventive maintenance, complex repairs, diagnosing mechanical and electronic issues, and assisting with remote triage for roadside breakdowns. Additionally, the technician will interact with customers and drivers, coach other technicians, and perform facility maintenance duties, adhering to all compliance guidelines.

Requirements

  • Licensed 310T Diesel Mechanic.

  • Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including: Routine preventative maintenance, which should include oil changes, brake and tire work.
  • Diagnostics and repairs, including AC, electrical systems.
  • Advanced skilled level repairs to include some major engine repairs, diesel after treatment or automotive fuel injection repairs required.
  • Four (4) years or more relevant work experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to apply knowledge of computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc. advanced required.
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A, preferred.
  • All other certification as required by location, required.
  • Safety Sensitive Non-Regulated Tech.

Responsibilities

  • Performs standard vehicle maintenance.
  • Performs preventive maintenance.
  • Performs complex repairs with minimal (if any) support.
  • Demonstrates the ability to access and use internal and external maintenance documents.
  • Diagnoses and repairs complex mechanical and electronic problems with minimal (if any) support, utilizing diagnostic computers/software when applicable.
  • Performs remote triage with RCRC and customers to determine best solution to assist roadside breakdowns.
  • Instructs and advises other technicians regarding maintenance repair procedures and diagnostics.
  • Coaches/Mentors other level technicians.
  • Advises shop management and other technicians on shop repairs.
  • Performs facility maintenance duties.
  • Utilizes key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available.
  • Works in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT).
  • Performs other support duties as required to support operations, such as Service Island support.
  • Performs tire and wheel safety training within 90 days (TW220).
  • Repairs and replaces tire and wheel assemblies.
  • Performs nail hole repairs.
  • Verifies, diagnoses, and repairs tire-related ride quality complaints.
  • Performs failure analysis and substantiates premature failure.
  • Is PM trained and qualified within 90 days (PM230 & PM298).
  • Mentors technicians in complete and efficient PMs.
  • Conducts quality inspections on PMs.
  • Is brake air trained and qualified within 90 days (BA220 & BA298).
  • Measures lining thickness.
  • Adjusts brakes.
  • Performs air brake sections of P.M.
  • Performs brake overhaul.
  • Measures drums, rotors, cam bushings.
  • Replaces S cams and bushings, slack adjusters and shims.
  • Replaces foot and relay valves, air dryers, air tanks, air lines and other similar components.
  • Meets federal qualifications of brake mechanic and inspectors (FMCS 396.25).
  • Performs failure analysis and substantiates abuse or premature failure.
  • Diagnoses and repairs all brake systems and related problems.
  • Is brake hydraulic trained and qualified within 90 days (BH220 & BH298) where appropriate.
  • Measures lining thickness.
  • Adjusts service brakes.
  • Adjusts park brakes.
  • Repairs or replaces minor parts such as lines.
  • Bleeds brake systems.
  • Performs brake shoe replacement.
  • Measures rotors and drums.
  • Inspects and replaces wheel cylinders, master cylinders and boosters.
  • Is A/C recycling and recovery certified within 90 days (CF609) & A/C trained and qualified within 180 days (AC220 & AC298).
  • Performs basic system checks such as power to compressor, condenser obstructions, belt tension, etc.
  • Identifies refrigerant and oil leaks.
  • Operates charging and recovery equipment.
  • Attaches manifold gauges.
  • Charges the system according to manufacturer's specification.
  • Meets Federal Refrigeration/AC qualifications.
  • Flushes system contaminants.
  • Runs OEM performance tests and verifies performance.
  • Utilizes electrical schematics and diagnostic procedures to identify correct related problems.
  • Diagnoses and repairs all A/C, heater, and refrigeration systems and related problems.
  • Performs all mechanical and electrical diagnostics on liftgates.
  • Performs failure analysis and substantiates abuse or premature failure.
  • Repairs and replaces all liftgate components.
  • Is HD electrical trained within 90 days (DR208).
  • Performs full diagnostic charging system including in-depth analysis and corrections.
  • Performs in-depth analysis, gets to root cause and makes corrections for cranking systems.
  • Diagnoses and repairs all cranking systems and related problems.
  • Diagnoses, isolates, and repairs lighting system problems such as shorted and open circuits.
  • Diagnoses and repairs electronically controlled lighting and electrical sub-systems (i.e., SAM cab/body control module).
  • Identifies proper clutch operation.
  • Identifies proper clutch brake operation and adjusts.
  • Adjusts hydraulic or mechanical clutches.
  • Removes and replaces clutch, throw out bearing, pilot bearing, flywheel, clutch brake, etc.
  • Diagnoses all fan clutch types.
  • Diagnoses all control systems.
  • Rebuilds fan clutches.
  • Diagnoses and repairs all cooling systems and related problems.
  • Performs diagnostics and major repairs on drive axles as required.
  • Performs failure analysis and substantiates abuse or premature failure on drive axles.
  • Performs diagnostics and major repairs on drive lines as required.
  • Performs failure analysis and substantiates abuse or premature failure on drive lines.
  • Overhauls and replaces all assemblies and components as required for diesel and gas engines.
  • Performs failure analysis and substantiates abuse or premature failure for diesel and gas engines.
  • Diagnoses and repairs emission after treatment components and related sub-systems.
  • Diagnoses all fuel system malfunctions.
  • Repairs and replaces fuel system components including injectors.
  • Diagnoses and repairs electronically controlled fuel related sub-systems.
  • Performs alignment procedures and adjusts as necessary.
  • Diagnoses and repairs all steering components for wear and/or damage.
  • Checks and adjusts trailer axle alignment.
  • Adjusts wheel bearings.
  • Performs failure analysis and substantiates premature failure on steering and non-driven axles and alignment.
  • Diagnoses and repairs air leaks in suspension-chassis and cab.
  • Diagnoses and repairs suspension and chassis components.
  • Diagnoses hard to find problems and all types of system problems.
  • Maintains, repairs, and replaces all chassis components.
  • Performs failure analysis and substantiates abuse or premature failure on suspension-chassis and cab.
  • Repairs and/or replaces 5th wheels.
  • Diagnoses and repairs vehicle coupling components for wear and/or damage.
  • Makes decisions surrounding vehicle diagnostics and repair.
