License Vocational/Practical Nurses are needed to provide direct patient care services in accordance with legal, ethical, and institutional standards. This involves evaluating patients and administering therapeutic treatments as ordered by Health Services clinical staff. Nurses will perform nursing duties within the scope of their current licensure, administer prescribed medications, assist with medication distribution, monitor patient responses to therapy, perform skin testing, and conduct venipuncture for laboratory specimens. They will also record and document patient care activities, process lab work, maintain accurate logs, screen laboratory tests for abnormal values, and ensure proper handling of sharps. Additionally, nurses will assist mid-level practitioners and physicians with daily scheduling and patient management, assist the Optometrist with vision screening and exams, and possess knowledge of chronic health problem treatments. Maintaining patient privacy, adhering to infection control policies, and operating EKG and laboratory equipment are also key responsibilities. The role requires knowledge of mental health disorders, the ability to screen for mood changes, and proficiency in basic first aid and illness/injury guidance. Nurses will triage sick-call complaints, assist with intake screening and exit summaries for inmate transfers, and accept nursing assignments commensurate with their qualifications.
