About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Dean of Veterinary Sciences, the Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) provides comprehensive support for the educational mission of the Veterinary Sciences program. This includes direct instruction, assisting faculty in the delivery of both theoretical (lecture) and practical (laboratory) instruction, as well as actively mentoring students in the acquisition and refinement of clinical skills. The LVT will also ensure the maintenance of an organized and safe learning environment. A vital aspect of this role is the coordination and execution of animal transportation to and from the SPCA Serving Erie County, utilizing a college-designated vehicle.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology Program
  • Must be a licensed veterinary technician (LVT) in good standing.
  • Maintains up-to-date immunization against infections and diseases related to the occupation of Veterinary Technician (e.g., pre-exposure rabies vaccination).
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn and apply the AVMA standards of accreditation and contemporary medicine.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to safely handle and transport a variety of animal species (primarily dogs and cats).
  • Commitment to student-centered learning and fostering an inclusive academic environment.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and willingness to learn and integrate technology into teaching.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience or teaching experience preferred.
  • Maintain professional memberships as appropriate such as the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) and a state or local professional organization.
  • Full knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe Acrobat functionality and ability to apply that knowledge in day-to-day tasks.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle high volume workload.
  • Familiarity with educational technology and its impact in the classroom, labs, and online courses.
  • For both in-person and online course offerings management and utilization of teaching platforms and technologies such as Blackboard, Microsoft Teams, Panopto, and ExamSoft for effective course delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs courses as needed by the department
  • Assist faculty in preparing and delivering laboratory sessions for veterinary technology courses.
  • Provide technical and educational support to students during hands-on clinical skill development.
  • Ensure laboratory spaces are clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain lab safety and adhere to proper biosafety and animal handling protocols.
  • Help facilitate demonstrations and support student learning activities under the direction of instructional staff.
  • Serve as primary coordinator for animal transport to and from the SPCA Serving Erie County.
  • Drive the designated college transport van, ensuring safe and humane transportation of animals.
  • Maintain communication with SPCA staff to coordinate schedules, required documentation, and special care instructions for each transport.
  • Ensure that all transport logs, health records, and vehicle inspections are up-to-date and compliant with institutional and regulatory policies.
  • Provide basic husbandry care to animals before and after transport, as needed.
