About The Position

Provides direct patient care and services, education, and support to patients in the occupational health specialty practice under the supervision of a nurse practitioner or physician. Functions as a clinical, community, and employer resource, educator, and consultant. Able to coordinate and provide care for patients based on detailed treatment protocol initiated by providers without need of direct supervision.

Requirements

  • Completion of an LPN program recognized by the State Board of Nursing.
  • One (1) year experience as an LPN.
  • Holds a current LPN compact/multistate license recognized by the NCSBN Compact State or is licensed to practice as an LPN in the state the team member is working.
  • If an LPN team member working in this position obtains RN licensure, Prisma Health will accept RN licensure for a limited time until the team member can be placed in an RN position.
  • Team members should immediately notify their manager and Talent Acquisition if they are scheduled to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam or have obtained RN licensure.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of the Prisma Health Nurse Residency Program or successful completion of a comparable residency program from another organization.
  • Program equivalency recognized by the SC State Board of Nursing.
  • DOT UDS Certification (certification will be required within 6 months of hire).
  • DOT BAT Certification (certification will be required within 12 months of hire).
  • Spirometry/Audiometric Certification (certification will be required within 18 months of hire).

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care to include assessment and evaluation of an injured worker.
  • Consults with provider and makes changes in treatment plan as needed.
  • Maintains a knowledge base of workers compensation laws and regulations.
  • Assess, document, and work-up physicals for providers which include DOT, pre-employment, executive, basic, and respiratory.
  • Reports any concerns or issues to provider prior to physical exam.
  • Provides DOT and non-DOT breath alcohol testing and urine drug screen collection for all national reference laboratories.
  • Performs audiometric and spirometry testing as mandated by OSHA.
  • Performs phone triage and involves providers when needed but uses critical thinking skills and advanced knowledge to handle the majority of calls.
  • Communicates with patient, employers, insurance carriers, case managers, and other medical providers to discuss testing results and evaluations with recommended treatment plan and follow-up care as directed by provider.
  • Calls in prescriptions as directed by providers.
  • Triages workers comp injuries and incoming referrals, prioritizes scheduling of office visits and testing.
  • Coordinates MRO visits to include verification of prescriptions and visit/call with provider.
  • Performs nursing assessments for new employees based on employer requirements.
  • Provides adult immunizations and PPDs to comply with company standards.
  • Assists providers with in-office procedures.
  • Provides comfort and safety measures for patients before, during, and after the procedure.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients to include awareness of safety procedures, protocols, and adherence to patient care standards.
  • Participates in environmental and infection control rounds to ensure safe environment.
  • Maintains professional practice standards, guidelines, policies, procedures, and current specific knowledge through education and professional activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
