About The Position

The City of McMinnville is hiring a Library Technician. This classification provides library service at public service desks and behind the scenes; performs varied duties of the Library. Work will include a variety of the essential job functions listed below. This is a 10-12 hour/week position that will be scheduled 2-3 days per week. This will include working 1-2 weekend days. Requirements

  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties as described.
  • A typical way to qualify would be a high school degree.
  • Knowledge of Principles of customer service and standard office practices.
  • Knowledge of Technology in public libraries and applications such as Microsoft Office
  • Skill and Ability to Learn the Dewey Decimal system.
  • Skill and Ability to Learn library software (ILS) procedures.
  • Skill and Ability to Learn about Library collections.
  • Skill and Ability to Understand and follow instructions
  • Ability to exemplify traits that reflect the City’s culture, including integrity, a customer service orientation, cultural competency, trustworthiness, flexibility and a willingness to change.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous library experience or related coursework.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish languages.
  • Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal Classification system

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service such as communicating positively with patrons, partner organizations, and city coworkers.
  • Assist with promoting and coordinating library programs and events.
  • Participate in the training of new employees and volunteers.
  • Provide input for unit budget preparation as required.
  • Problem solving patron issues (including behavior issues).
  • Enter and maintain records and data.
  • Perform routine office support functions such as processing mail, answering phones and ordering supplies.
  • Participate in the hiring process for employees and volunteers.
  • Perform circulation tasks (check in/out, holds, shelving, delivery).
  • Assist patrons with accessing library systems.
  • Process library card applications and make cards.
  • Receive monies for payment of fines and reconciling cash register.
  • Evaluate damages and assess fines to patron accounts.
  • Maintain patron records and privacy.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other agencies, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.
  • Participate in committees when requested.
  • Maintain proficiency in job requirements which may include attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility, which may require travel.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality, data integrity, and comply with all related city, state, and federal standards related to confidentiality.
