About The Position

The vision of each of the Fitchburg Public Schools is to provide learning experiences that engage all students in achieving high academic standards while developing intellectual rigor, creative interest, and social characteristics that prepare them for the challenges of living successfully and productively as citizens of this new century. The Library Media Specialist position is responsible for ensuring that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information technology.

Requirements

• Associate Degree from an accredited college or university; or Bachelor's Degree preferred
• Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents and advocate for children to problem-solve effectively
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and ability to work with all stakeholders
• Belief in the commitment to increasing personal growth, both academic and social-emotional, to obtain the highest level of achievement for every student
• Knowledge of DESE Digital Literacy and Computer Science Standards
• Knowledge of library management systems

Responsibilities

• Assist students with accessing web-based reading and math interventions
• Catalog materials to facilitate the effective retrieval of information
• Assist staff with accessing student progress data on web-based interventions
• Monitors student behavior as outlined in the Acceptable Use Policies (AUP)
• Provide guidance, communicate high expectations, and show an active interest in student progress
• Facilitate critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity
