About The Position

Arthur Lakes Library is seeking a service-oriented, collaborative, and detail-focused Library Technician III to support library operations during evening and weekend hours. This position plays a vital role in ensuring students, faculty, and staff have access to the resources, services, and support they need to succeed. As a key member of our Circulation and User Services team, you will provide exceptional customer service, oversee student employees, maintain physical collections, and help create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all library users. Requirements

  • Three (3) years of relevant experience working in a library setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides comparable knowledge and skills, which included (experience must be documented in "Work History" section of application; "see resume" will not be accepted)
  • Experience using integrated library systems (ILS), library management systems (LMS), or comparable service-focused software.
  • Experience supervising, training, or mentoring student employees, temporary workers, or other staff.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and research skills.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming environment for diverse populations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an academic or higher education library.
  • Familiarity with library systems such as Alma and LibApps.
  • Experience working with circulation services, reserves, or collections maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site operational support during evening and weekend library hours.
  • Staff the circulation desk and serve as a primary point of contact for library patrons.
  • Assist users with circulation services, printing, scanning, study room reservations, library resources, course reserves, and general questions.
  • Resolve routine and non-routine patron concerns while exercising sound judgment and professionalism.
  • Support a welcoming, inclusive, and customer-focused environment.
  • Follow library and campus safety policies and emergency procedures.
  • Partner with the User Services Manager to recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate student employees.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to front desk student assistants.
  • Monitor service quality and help ensure consistent desk coverage.
  • Step in to provide circulation desk coverage when staffing gaps occur.
  • Coordinate ongoing maintenance of the library's physical collections.
  • Conduct shelf reading and organize projects to ensure collection accuracy and accessibility.
  • Search for missing materials and assist with troubleshooting collection issues.
  • Assign and monitor collection-related tasks completed by student employees.
  • Support access to circulating collections, course reserves, and specialized lending collections, including the Gadgets to Go program.
