About The Position

The Library Specialist, Mobile Library Services position supports community members through welcoming, inclusive library service delivered in assisted living communities and outreach locations. This role focuses on patron engagement, materials handling, and outreach support, helping ensure library services remain accessible and responsive across the community. The Library Specialist, Mobile Library Services, works primarily in assisted living communities and smaller outreach locations, with cross training on bookmobile services. This position is well suited for someone who can adapt quickly to changing locations and patron needs while maintaining a calm, supportive presence. This role represents the library in community-based environments while supporting patron needs, library materials, and programs. Work takes place in mobile and shared spaces, both indoors and outdoors, and may include evenings and on some occasions weekends.

Requirements

  • One year of customer service, library, or education experience
  • Ability to work with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds, including international cultures
  • Ability to work in confined environments with fluctuating temperatures and in all weather conditions
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Intermediate technology skills using Microsoft 365 and the ability to learn new tools
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role as specified in the attached job description

Responsibilities

  • Greets and assists community members at outreach locations, including assisted living communities and the bookmobile
  • Provides readers advisory, basic reference assistance, and library account support
  • Promotes library resources, programs, and events and connects patrons with additional staff as needed
  • Listens to feedback, sets expectations for library use, and helps de escalate and resolve concerns
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and welcoming library environment
  • Assists patrons with basic technology questions related to devices, e books, online resources, and library equipment
  • Troubleshoots printers and other library technology and connects patrons with additional support as needed
  • Processes, shelves, merchandises, and maintains library materials and displays
  • Loads and unloads book carts and boxes at multiple service locations
  • Assists with home delivery services and may drive a personal vehicle for occasional delivery assignments
  • Supports programs, events, and outreach efforts and tracks attendance and service metrics
  • Collaborates with colleagues across teams and engages in ongoing professional learning
  • Keeps current on library resources, technology, and services
  • Shares feedback with supervisors and builds positive working relationships with coworkers
