About The Position

Responsible for accurately sorting, shelving, and maintaining the orderly appearance of library materials. This is a part-time position requiring 20 hours per week, with shifts scheduled Monday-Saturday, including some evening hours. The role involves regular attendance and the ability to be prepared to begin work at the assigned location and time. The job description does not constitute an employment agreement and is subject to change. Essential duties include sorting and shelving library materials according to the Dewey Decimal System, shelf-reading, organizing, straightening, and shifting collections. The position also provides public assistance with library resources, assists with office-related tasks, and supports library programs and outreach. Responsibilities include answering telephone calls and implementing library policies and procedures for patrons. Reliable transportation is required.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Must have completed 2 years of high school
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with County and Library policies and applicable laws
  • Skill in using standard business software and equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Communicate effectively with patrons and staff
  • Perform various mathematical calculations accurately
  • Apply common sense to daily tasks, patron assistance, and problem-solving
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment
  • Interact professionally with the public
  • Exercise initiative, discretion, and decision-making within established guidelines
  • Reliable transportation
  • Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing is required

Responsibilities

  • Sorts and shelves all library materials according to Dewey Decimal System
