About Us: The Medical Library provides evidence-based and consumer health information to the hospital’s physicians, administration, and staff and to the hospital patients’ and families to ensure the children of Central California will receive high quality health care. The Library’s collection consists of more than 1,400 medical journals, in print and electronic formats, approximately 50% of which focus on pediatrics and childhood diseases. There is also a large collection of print and e-books on key pediatric topics, medical books, and core clinical pediatric textbooks. To serve the needs of all hospital and medical staff, the Library will borrow material which it does not own from other libraries. Located on our main hospital campus in Madera, the Family Resource Center provides hospital patients and families with access to a wide variety of consumer health websites about child health and well-being. Through our Literacy Program, George's Book Club, the Library staff coordinate the donation of books and funds, to enable the distribution of new books to every child who wants one, who is seen within the Valley Children's Healthcare system. Job Summary: Under general supervision, this position is accountable for administering and maintaining a professional health sciences library consistent with The Joint Commission accreditation standards and Medical Library Association criteria and provides day-to-day assistance for the information needs of physicians, employees, residents, and students. Responsible for the planning, development, implementation and management of all library and information management programs and services offered by the library, including the acquisition and/or licensing of information resources. Areas of accountability include responsibility for hospital wide literacy program including George's Book Club program and other internal and community partnerships via the Guild's Center for Community Health, training and orientations of library users, the technical applications related to circulation and cataloging functions, the provision of materials and services to meet the patient care, education, and research information needs of physicians, residents, hospital staff, allied health students in affiliated programs and other healthcare providers. Provides guidance to library staff and allocates library resources in support of the library's mission and goals. Assists in preparation of the library budget planning including negotiated pricing and services with vendors and service providers. Keeps abreast of developments in the field of health sciences librarianship, maintaining knowledge of innovative and emerging information technologies and adapting them for use by the library and other users. Participates on various medical staff and organizational committees including the Medical Staff Education Committee, GME Scholarly Activity Committee and others as applicable.
