As our Library Paraprofessional, you'll perform library work, basic reader's advisory, reference services, and present programs. In this role, you'll link the community to library resources while breathing life into your own story.

Requirements

  • Two years of library experience
  • Associate's degree in Library Science, Education, Liberal Arts, Social Science, Information Management, or related field
  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
  • Must complete a background check and fingerprint identification upon hire to secure and maintain an Identity Verified Print (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Must pass a pre-employment background and/or fingerprint investigation as required by statute or policy, including drug and alcohol testing requirements for positions designated as safety-sensitive

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Library Science, Education, Liberal Arts, Social Science, Information Management, or a closely related field
  • Advanced library/public library experience with library-related automation systems or databases; eReaders and other digital devices; or creating and implementing programs for youth, teens, and adults
  • Paraprofessional library skills acquired through a specialized educational training program

Responsibilities

  • Assists with preparing, implementing, and presenting public programs
  • Assists with providing direct service to customers through basic reference and reader’s advisory services
  • Creates reading logs, brochures, signage, posters, bulletin boards, letters, bookmarks, bibliographies, games, promotional displays, and pamphlets
  • Performs routine opening/closing procedures. Serves as Person in Charge of the Library in the absence of the Branch Manager and Supervisor
  • Assists with conducting school visits, group tours, and community outreach
  • Responds to customer concerns
  • Assists with collection development, including weeding, shifting, shelf-reading, etc., as needed
  • Assists patrons in the use of computer services, including the online catalog, the Internet, and various databases
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers using the Library’s District Great Expectations customer service model
