About The Position

The Sun Prairie Public Library is hiring for two Library Page positions, one at 10 hours per week and another at 15 hours per week. This role is crucial for ensuring library materials are organized and accessible to staff and patrons. The Library Page is responsible for shelving returned books, audiovisual materials, magazines, and newspapers in their correct locations. This position requires attention to detail, the ability to follow alphanumeric sorting systems, and a commitment to maintaining the neatness and order of the library shelves. Additionally, the role involves tasks such as emptying the book drop, monitoring for minor maintenance issues, assisting patrons with library equipment, preparing meeting rooms, and aiding with library opening and closing procedures. The Library Page also retrieves items for interlibrary loans and performs other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall efficiency and user experience of the library.

Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Knowledge and ability to sort efficiently in alphabetic or numeric order.
  • Ability to understand and perform routine library procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and public.
  • Ability to develop a working understanding of the Dewey Decimal and other systems of library arrangement.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to climb or to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and pushing and pulling objects on wheels weighing 60-80 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Performs alpha-numeric sorting tasks.
  • Sorts and arranges library materials for shelving and shelves them in proper order.
  • Monitors shelves for neatness and correct shelving order.
  • Empties book drop.
  • Monitors minor maintenance issues affecting the book drop or collections and assists/reports as necessary.
  • Refers non-directional questions to appropriate staff members.
  • Straightens and picks up library.
  • Prepares meeting rooms for events as needed.
  • Assists with opening and closing the library.
  • Retrieves items to send to other libraries.
  • Assists patrons with library equipment.
  • Performs other duties as required.
