About The Position

We are hiring an organized and detail-oriented individual to join our Page team at Lakewood Library! You will ensure library materials are shelved accurately and create a positive and inviting atmosphere for all patrons. Your work will be with staff and volunteers, and you will contribute to the care of the library collection. If you are ready to make a positive impact on the Library's success, then this part time, benefitted position may be the job for you! This position creates a positive experience for Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) patrons by shelving, transporting and retrieving materials. Employee needs to have the ability to use basic workplace technology including emails, internet and automated software. May also be responsible for answering the telephone, typing, performing data entry and filing. Position must comply with laws governing patron privacy and confidentiality under CRS24-90-119, and the Code of Ethics of the American Library Association, as well as ADA governing public access to space and technology. This part-time position is scheduled for 20 hours per week and is fully eligible for benefits.

Requirements

  • Ability to use basic workplace technology including emails, internet and automated software.
  • Ability to comply with laws governing patron privacy and confidentiality under CRS24-90-119, and the Code of Ethics of the American Library Association, as well as ADA governing public access to space and technology.
  • Minimum age of 16, as of the date of your application.
  • Ability to stand, bend, crouch, stretch, and push book carts for four or more hours in this physical job.
  • Ability to exert 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly.
  • Available to work 20 hours per week which may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • GED, High School Diploma
  • No Experience

Responsibilities

  • Shelving, transporting and retrieving library materials.
  • Creating a positive and inviting atmosphere for all patrons.
  • Instructing patrons in the use of self-check-out machines and regularly using automatic material handling systems.
  • Processing materials including checking library materials in/out.
  • Processing holds and routing materials to other locations as needed.
  • Performing basic author/title and informational searches.
  • Preparing items to be shelved or repaired.
  • Maintaining records, processing materials from reports, and assisting with various equipment.
  • Determining the status of damaged materials.
  • Maintaining a variety of computer and tangible files and generating requests as needed for daily maintenance of library computers.
  • Answering in-person inquiries, helping patrons locate needed materials and referring patrons to other appropriate assistance.
  • Ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Notifying operations or other supervisor(s) of problems as non-routine situations arise.
  • Using library computer systems & automated equipment.
  • Submitting records and reports as required by library management.
  • Participating in the design/creation of displays and informational/directional aids.
  • Ensuring access to all materials both physical and digital.
  • Assisting with the general appearance and safety of the location.
  • Building and maintaining current knowledge of the library profession by utilizing electronic and physical resources.
  • Staying current on new trends and technologies by participating in trainings and other development activities.
  • Participating in staff and division meetings.
  • May participate on committees and/or task forces as assigned.
  • Suggesting best practices and procedures for pages.
  • May assist in coordinating the work of volunteers.
  • Keeping current on library policies and procedures relevant to division and library as a whole.
  • Monitoring adherence to Library policies procedure and/or communicating policies to patrons as necessary.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
