About The Position

The Library Page plays a crucial role in the effective operation of the Middleton Public Library, ensuring that library materials and resources are readily accessible to patrons. This position contributes to maintaining an organized, welcoming, and service-oriented library environment. Under the general supervision of designated library staff, the Library Page performs routine circulation, shelving, and materials maintenance tasks. The role also includes providing general support for public services, library resources, and programming, as well as assisting patrons by directing questions to the appropriate staff.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in or completion of high school coursework
  • Eligible to obtain a Work Permit if under 16 years of age
  • Working knowledge of basic library operations and technology
  • Organizational and time management skills to prioritize routine assignments and complete work accurately
  • Written and verbal communication skills, complemented by customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Collaboration skills to effectively work with others, fostering teamwork, clear communication, and creative problem solving
  • Entry level of proficiency in technology, including Microsoft Office, library technology, and other relevant software applications
  • Ability to perform work duties under general supervision and operate within policy guidelines using independent judgment in achieving assigned objectives
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity, honesty, initiative, and respect while maintaining strict confidentiality in all aspects of work
  • Ability to comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures, and report all unsafe activities or conditions to a supervisor
  • Ability to exhibit exceptional professionalism, tact, and decorum in all areas of work duties
  • Ability to be reliable, timely, and proactive in the completion of duties, meeting deadlines, and responding to inquiries

Responsibilities

  • Performs alpha-numeric sorting and filing tasks; checks in returned materials using the automated circulation system and manually processes exceptions as needed.
  • Arranges returned materials on carts, reshelves materials in proper order, and shelf-reads and straightens materials to maintain accurate shelf order.
  • Searches shelves for materials; physically prepares materials for circulation according to processing guidelines; and assists patrons with basic questions, referring them to appropriate staff when needed.
  • Completes special projects and other job duties as assigned or required.
