About The Position

The Library Engagement Technician is responsible for maintaining the circulation desk, assisting patrons, supporting library programming, maintaining library records and statistics, and assisting with the daily operations of the library under the direction of the Director of Library Services. The incumbent will assist the department in meeting BFCC mission statements and goals.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in any field
  • Minimum one (1) year of library, customer service, or general office experience, including operating computers and related equipment
  • Must complete the Montana Library Certification Program within three (3) years of hire
  • Knowledge of operations of basic office equipment
  • Proper telephone and email etiquette
  • Blackfeet Community College operating procedures
  • Excellent oral and written communications
  • Time management skills
  • Working with computer programs
  • Working knowledge of computer and web-based programs
  • Customer service and interpersonal communication skills
  • Type accurately with attention to detail
  • Speak to groups of people
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patron records and related information
  • Creativity and initiative
  • Self-motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Work effectively with diverse populations and age groups

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in higher education, tribal communities, or public service environments preferred

Responsibilities

  • Check materials in and out to patrons
  • Assist patrons with online searches, including database and digital resource searching
  • Provide technical and customer service support to patrons
  • Assist patrons with computers, printing, and web-based resources
  • Assist with Library Literacy Instruction
  • Maintain accurate statistics, records, and filing systems with confidentiality
  • Assist with cataloging and maintain catalog records
  • Re-shelve books and library materials
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of library programs and activities
  • Create book displays, bulletin boards, and promotional materials
  • Represent the library at campus and community events in a positive and professional manner
  • Provide welcoming and culturally responsive customer service to students, staff, faculty, and community patrons
  • Other duties necessary to the function of BFCC, as needed
