About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Library and/or Designee, performs assigned duties necessary to support the Library Department with customer service, processes and procedures, and clerical support. Duties included are, but not limited to: shelving and organizing literature; conducting circulation borrowing, return procedures, and donation; overseeing Wi-Fi program; creating new accounts; issuing library cards; and customer and vendor interaction (e.g. answering questions, phones, emails, etc.). Responsible for cash management procedures, such as processing of fines, refunds, room rentals, reconciling cash drawer, running credit card report, and securing monies in the safe. May assist with collection maintenance and procurement. Assists in the training of volunteers. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of a high school diploma or GED
  • One (1) to three (3) years of work-related experience in Library Services, teaching or related field
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer services skills
  • Ability to sort and file
  • Ability to communicate and present oneself in a professional manner
  • Ability to successfully work with all age groups and backgrounds and needs
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and safety
  • Ability to type, read and write letters, emails, etc.
  • Ability to learn the City’s integrated Library software program/system
  • Strong organization skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working and professional relationships with City and other public employees, public officials, contractors, consultants, vendors, and the general public
  • Possess a valid Texas Class C driver license
  • Must pass all post offer pre-employment processes and/or procedures, to include but not limited to Drug Screen, Physical Examination, and applicable Background Checks
