About The Position

The Library Aide is a paraprofessional role supporting the Library Media Specialist. This position involves performing various clerical tasks, assisting with the instructional program, and maintaining the library's operations. The aide is expected to stay updated on young adult reading trends, manage library materials, and create a welcoming environment for students.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong computer skills, including spreadsheet computer software and Google Office Suite.
  • Experience in working with and supervising groups of children.
  • Familiarity with using a library.
  • Enjoy working with high school students.
  • Ability to perform responsibilities without the necessity of close supervision.
  • Maintain a generally positive attitude.
  • Create a friendly, approachable atmosphere and environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of two years of post secondary education or training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Shelving, straightening, and shelf reading of library materials.
  • Maintaining the physical appearance and cleanliness of the library.
  • Setting up displays and creating bulletin boards.
  • Pulling library materials that need mending, discarding, or replacement.
  • Processing new library materials for circulation.
  • Performing clerical and computer-related tasks.
  • Maintaining the centralized, computerized school library catalog system.
  • Sorting returned materials by their assigned library location.
  • Fulfilling interlibrary loan requests.
  • Checking returned materials for overdue status or reserve status and sending notices.
  • Examining returned materials for damage.
  • Collecting and recording library fines.
  • Recording payments for lost or damaged materials.
  • Creating purchase orders for materials and supplies.
  • Assisting in training student aides in circulation procedures and work routines.
  • Maintaining attendance records of students assigned to the library for supervision.
  • Tutoring students in computer use and library procedures.
  • Providing information and answering questions.
  • Overseeing the use of photocopying equipment.
  • Processing new students by adding them to relevant software programs.
  • Performing reliably and dependably with good attendance, punctuality, flexibility, and time management.
  • Developing job-related abilities, skills, and knowledge.
  • Performing responsibilities without the necessity of close supervision.
  • Maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Creating a friendly, approachable atmosphere and environment.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the School Library Media Specialist.
