About The Position

The purpose of the Librarian is to administer and maintain the campus library and its collections of information, for student, faculty, and staff access. Various types of informational materials, such as books, periodicals, recordings, films, and databases will be part of the collections maintained. Tasks may include acquiring, cataloging, and circulating library materials, as well as user services such as locating and organizing information, providing instruction on how to access information, and setting up and operating a library's media equipment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelors degree
  • 2 years of related experience in a medium-traffic higher education/university office environment
  • Dependable

  • Ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, and staff
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and customer service skills
  • Time management and the ability to meet deadlines and multi-task
  • Strong technical competencies in audiovisual, computer, and other learning aids
  • Comfortability in database, web-based, and other electronic information pathways
  • General knowledge of computers including Microsoft Office Applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel
  • Experience with virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom, and MSFT Teams

Responsibilities

  • Check books in and out of the library.
  • Train students, faculty, and staff on utilizing online library catalog.
  • Review and evaluate materials, using book reviews, catalogs, faculty recommendations, and current holdings to select and order print, audio-visual, and electronic resources.
  • Keep up-to-date records of circulation and materials, maintain inventory, and correct cataloging errors.
  • Search standard reference materials, including online sources and the Internet, to answer patrons' reference questions.
  • Analyze patrons' requests to determine needed information and assist in furnishing or locating that information.
  • Supervise daily library operations.
  • Work with Campus Director and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs on budgeting and planning.
  • Coordinate with main campus librarian ensure alignment of policies, procedures, and available resources.
  • Plan and teaches on research, reference materials, and other pertinent topics.
  • Confer with colleagues, faculty, and staff to conduct informational programs, make collection decisions, and determine library services to offer.
  • Code, classify, and catalog books, publications, films, audio-visual aids, and other library materials based on subject matter or standard library classification systems.
  • Respond to customer complaints, taking action as necessary.
  • Explain use of library facilities, resources, equipment, and services and provide information about library policies.
  • Plan and deliver student-centered programs and services.
  • Locate unusual or unique information in response to specific requests.
  • Develop library policies and procedures.
  • Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot information access aids, such as databases, annotated bibliographies, web pages, electronic pathfinders, software programs, and online tutorials.
  • Engage in professional development activities, such as taking continuing educations and attending or participating in conferences, workshops, professional meetings, and associations.
  • Compile lists of books, periodicals, articles, and audio-visual materials on particular subjects.
  • Assemble and arrange display materials.
