As a Librarian, Reference, you’ll work primarily with adults while also providing daily services to children and teens. You’ll be a self-starter who embraces public library service with a positive attitude, creativity, and a commitment to teamwork.

Requirements

  • A Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science, or a closely related field, from an accredited graduate library program; OR A Bachelor’s Degree with current enrollment in an accredited graduate library program and a projected graduation date within six (6) months of hire
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team
  • Commitment to providing inclusive service to a diverse community
  • Comfortable engaging with patrons of all ages, including children, teens, and those who speak languages other than English.
  • Initiative, creativity, and flexibility
  • Willingness to grow and learn
  • Valid Florida Driver's License

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish language skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outstanding customer service to patrons of all ages using library resources, technology, reference, and readers’ advisory.
  • Maintain and promote the adult collection through selection, weeding, and visually engaging displays.
  • Plan, present, and evaluate programs and activities for adults at the library and at outreach locations.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource, explaining library policies and procedures with professionalism and tact.
  • Support branch operations, including supervision of volunteers and paraprofessional staff, and occasionally overseeing the branch in the absence of the manager.
  • Participate in branch-specific and system-wide committees and professional development to stay current with emerging library trends and technology.
  • Build strong relationships with co-workers and the community, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.
  • All County employees are required to work before, during, or after an emergency as needed. This may include temporarily being assigned to work and performing duties outside of the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
