About The Position
Durham College and Ontario Tech University Library invite applications for a Part-Time Liaison Librarian (24 hours per week). This temporary appointment offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to student success, teaching excellence, and research support within a collaborative academic environment. The end date of the contract is October 2027. Working alongside a team of librarians and library technicians, the successful candidate will provide research assistance, information literacy instruction, outreach, and collection support for programs in Durham College's Faculty of Social and Community Services. Through innovative and responsive library services, the Liaison Librarian will help students, faculty, and staff navigate an evolving information landscape and develop the skills needed for academic and professional success. While primarily based at the North Oshawa campus library, the successful candidate may occasionally work at other library locations. Reporting to the Associate University Librarian, Scholarly Resources, the Liaison Librarian serves as the primary library contact for assigned academic programs within Durham College's Faculty of Social and Community Services. The successful candidate will maintain strong partnerships with faculty and campus partners, deliver engaging instruction, provide expert research support, and contribute to the development of collections and services that align with curriculum needs. The incumbent will actively participate in initiatives related to information literacy, student engagement, scholarly communication, open education, and emerging technologies that support teaching and learning. Requirements
- Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree from an ALA-accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 1 year experience supporting Social Sciences, Community Services, Health Sciences, or related disciplines
- Experience teaching information literacy in higher education or in a library setting
- Experience using learning technologies, online learning platforms, and digital content creation tools
- Understanding of the opportunities and challenges associated with generative AI in teaching, learning, and research
- Experience participating in assessment, program review, or evidence-based service improvement initiatives
Responsibilities
- Provide responsive research assistance and consultation services to students, faculty, and staff through in-person, virtual, and asynchronous channels
- Design, deliver, and assess information literacy instruction that supports academic success, critical thinking, and ethical information use
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with academic departments and campus service areas
- Evaluate, develop, and manage collections that support teaching, learning, and applied research in assigned disciplines
- Promote library services, resources, and initiatives to increase awareness, engagement, and student success
- Contribute to the development of learning materials, guides, tutorials, and online resources
- Support initiatives related to open educational resources (OER), scholarly communication, copyright, and emerging educational technologies
- Monitor trends in librarianship, higher education, AI, digital literacy, and assigned subject disciplines to inform service development
- Participate in library committees, projects, assessment activities, and strategic initiatives
- Contribute to an inclusive, welcoming, and student-centered learning environment
