About The Position

The Pima County Public Library is looking for a strong leader to fill the position of Librarian III to serve as the Library Manager of Miller-Golf Links Library. This busy east-side library, located near many schools and the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, circulates a high volume of materials and offers programs to customers of all ages. The ideal candidate will foster a safe environment of compassion, joy, and learning for both staff and patrons. Experience effectively building, leading, and helping to grow and mentor both individuals and teams is crucial.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in library and information science (MLIS or MLS) from an accredited college or university AND five years of professional-level experience performing library work AND three years of general supervisory workplace experience. (Note: supervisory experience may run concurrently with library experience identified above or may be ancillary.)
  • One year of experience with Pima County Public Library as a Librarian II or other similar classifications approved by Director at time of review. (Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

  • Valid driver license is at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is at time of appointment.
  • The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures.
  • Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination.
  • Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record.
  • Some positions may require specialized certification or licensure relative to assignment at the time of appointment or prior to completion of an initial or promotional probation period.
  • Some positions require a valid Arizona Class D driver license at the time of application or prior to completion of an initial or promotional probation period.
  • Failure to obtain/maintain the required certifications/licenses shall be grounds for termination.
  • The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in library and information science.
  • Minimum three (3) years experience leading and managing teams.
  • Minimum three (3) years experience collaborating with supervisees, direct peers, and supervisors both in the library and other departments.
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in project management.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience working or volunteering with communities experiencing houselessness and food insecurity.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience handling facility and property maintenance issues.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, controls, manages, and participates in the operations of one or more department units, including budget and payroll administration and direct strength-based supervision, training, coaching, and assessment of professional and subordinate unit supervisors.
  • Coordinates the maintenance, repair, and modification of assigned facilities with appropriate County departments and agencies and provides onsite supervision to vendors and service providers.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of departmental strategic directions, policies and procedures by identifying community needs using available data (census, demographic, survey, etc.), providing input, creating related plans for assigned division(s), and motivating staff to apply the organization's values and strategic directions.
  • Interprets and ensures compliance with applicable federal state, county and related laws, rules and regulations within assigned division(s) including maintaining appropriate security and confidentiality within assigned division(s).
  • May be required to testify in court.
  • In charge of one or more library units including developing Facility Emergency Action Plan(s), serving as Building Coordinator for assigned division(s), and training staff to implement the plan as well as apply other public health and safety practices.
  • Utilizes conflict management skills to de-escalate unexpected problems or potentially volatile situations, complete associated documentation, and demonstrate effective decision making.
  • Prepares branch or project-specific reports, budget recommendations, and proposals for administrative staff, library-affiliated boards, other departments, and community partners.
  • Serves as committee chair, facilitator, department representative and/or presenter during branch, administrative, departmental, professional association, community, and board meetings.
  • Utilizes and demonstrates understanding of cultural competence, library science, and emotional intelligence to incorporate and support intellectual freedom and community-driven diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives for staff and the public.
