About The Position

Fort Bend County is seeking a Librarian III-System Administrator to manage and maintain the Integrated Library System (ILS). This role involves researching, purchasing, implementing, and maintaining the ILS, as well as investigating future enhancements. The position requires training staff and patrons, configuring and maintaining associated systems like the automated phone service and self-check machines, and acting as a liaison with vendors. The Librarian III-System Administrator is responsible for the integrity and security of the ILS, assigning security permissions, designing SQL reports, and adjusting ILS settings to align with library policies. This role also leads the library’s system encoded archival description project and assists with digitalization initiatives. Daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of the automated system is required, along with supervising and assisting other employees. Participation in emergency management activities during local states of disaster is also a responsibility.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited school or in Computer Science with a concentration in System Administration, or a related degree with 10 years of direct experience with a large library ILS.
  • 3 years job related experience in public library with 1 year of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Researches, purchases, implements and maintains the ILS for integrated operating functions.
  • Investigates appropriate future enhancements and/or related products to the library’s automated system that will benefit patrons’ use of the library services and staff productivity.
  • Trains the library staff and patrons in the use of the ILS and associated vendor training.
  • Configures and maintains the automated phone service, external and internal DNS entries, online catalog, self-check machines and its connection to the ILS.
  • Acts as liaison between the automated database vendor and related vendors with integrated products to the automated database.
  • Integrates the ILS and external entities such as book jobbers and the time/access/print management software.
  • Responsible for the integrity and security of the ILS.
  • Assigns staff security permissions and authority levels to the automated database.
  • Designs, creates and refines SQL reports from the ILS database.
  • Adjusts settings in the ILS database to adhere to policy and procedures of Library Administration.
  • Acts as the lead on the library’s system encoded archival description project and assists departments in identifying digitalization projects and defining the project scope.
  • Performs daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance on the automated system.
  • Assists and supervises other employees with their duties; assigns work and reviews work when complete.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
