Requirements

  • High school diploma or the equivalent.
  • All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
  • Hospital food service experience and customer service.
  • Must exhibit outstanding interpersonal skills required to work well with others.
  • Must be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of modified diets.
  • Candidates must also possess adequate phone skills for interacting with our customers (internal and external) and perform duties in a very busy environment.
  • The individual must be able to communicate and understand the English language, both written and orally.
  • The candidate must be able to maintain a positive attitude in all customer/patient interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Entering meal preferences within the scope of diet restrictions and delivering meals to patients in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner.
  • Confirming and reconfirming the correct tray is delivered to the correct patient using two patient identifiers.
  • Representing the hospital and department in a professional and caring manner.
  • Instructing patients in the meal ordering process.
  • Acting as a patient advocate.
  • Ensuring the Safety of Patients and Team Members (according to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and County Health Department Guidelines) by washing hands frequently, wearing gloves, following infection prevention practices, maintaining clean and organized work areas, delivering patient trays and verifying patient identity, verifying menu selections are compliant with diet order, escalating food allergy and diet consistency concerns, promptly reporting adverse food reactions and outside food consumption by patients, monitoring and recording food and/or equipment temperatures, storing food and/or supplies using proper labeling, dating and rotation methods, operating equipment according to safety guidelines, and using IT equipment appropriately.
  • Ensuring Positive Service Outcomes by following the department work schedule, setting up, maintaining and breaking down workstation, following instructions with accuracy and attention to detail, completing area checklists and forms, operating and caring for equipment, remaining flexible to support other team members, assisting patients with menu selections, entering menu selections in the nutrition service software, verifying patient satisfaction with meals, delivering meals to patients that meet their needs, obtaining additional items for patient meal trays, retrieving dirty trays from patient rooms, preparing and delivering snacks, performing department duties (Dish room, rolling silverware, floor stock replenishment, supplies requisitions, break room and general clean up), and intervening and resolving customer service issues.
