About The Position

Universal is looking for responsible, energetic new team members to support our manufacturing processes in the Plate Department. Universal Stainless & Alloy Products, Inc., established in 1994, is headquartered in Bridgeville, PA, with plants in North Jackson, OH, Dunkirk, NY, and Titusville, PA. Universal Stainless produces semi-finished and finished specialty steel long products and plate including stainless steel, tool steel, bearing steel, gear steel, and aircraft quality low alloy steels for use in a variety of industries. The Leveler Operator is responsible for supporting manufacturing operations in the Plate Department by operating and monitoring a leveler press used to process steel plates. The operator will safely handle steel products and materials, monitor equipment operation, perform basic adjustments as trained, and inspect material to ensure production and quality requirements are met. This position also requires the safe operation of forklifts and overhead cranes for material handling. Employees will receive on-the-job training and will be expected to follow established procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards.

High school diploma or GED is required.
Employees must be able to work extended 12-hour shifts and varying schedules as assigned.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and work in a manufacturing environment for extended periods.
Must be able to safely work around manufacturing equipment, machinery, steel products, forklifts, and overhead cranes.
Must be able to wear required PPE for assigned work areas.

Nice To Haves

Previous manufacturing experience preferred.
Previous experience operating a leveler, press, heavy machinery, or industrial equipment preferred.
Previous forklift or overhead crane experience preferred.
Experience working in a steel or industrial manufacturing environment preferred.

Responsibilities

Operate and monitor the leveler press used in the production and processing of steel plate according to established procedures and production requirements.
Load, position, align, and handle steel plate and materials throughout the manufacturing process.
Safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move, position, and transport steel products and materials as trained and authorized.
Monitor leveler press operation and material flow to ensure production processes operate safely and efficiently.
Perform basic adjustments to leveler equipment and process settings as trained and directed.
Perform basic math and measurements related to production requirements, material dimensions, and processing specifications.
Inspect steel plate throughout the production process and identify quality concerns or conditions requiring attention.
Monitor equipment operation and communicate mechanical, material, or production concerns to appropriate personnel.
Follow established work instructions, quality requirements, and production procedures.
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
Participate in 5S and housekeeping activities.
Safely operate material-handling equipment as trained and authorized.
Work cooperatively with other operators, maintenance, quality, and manufacturing personnel.
Perform other duties as assigned.
