About The Position

Province House is seeking an outgoing, energetic, enthusiastic and team-orientated individual with exceptional communication and time management skills to perform duties as a Legislative tour guide. As a Legislative tour guide you will interpret the legislative system and the history of Province House. From the architecture to artwork, the building is home to historic artifacts and displays. Offering a guided tour of this historic building provides an excellent opportunity to make use of public speaking skills, as well as second language skills and learn more about Nova Scotia and its government. More than 6,500 people visited Province House for guided and self-guided tours in 2025.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and interest in the legislative system.
  • Understanding of history, art, and architecture.
  • Ability to work with children, youth, and adults of all ages.
  • Value the concepts of equity, diversity, and inclusion in all areas of work.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Clearly demonstrate an understanding of the dynamics to always work effectively with the public and legislative staff in a respectful and professional manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Fluently bilingual (French & English) candidates are preferred.
  • Previous experience in a museum or tourism/hospitality sector is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Greeting visitors and collaborating with staff and security to provide a positive visitor experience.
  • Delivering half-hour guided tours back-to-back and engaging visitors in the public areas.
  • Engaging with the public both inside and outside Province House (within the legislative precinct) to increase visitation.
  • Learning historical and significant facts about Province House and the House of Assembly to deliver public education and answer questions.
  • Consistently communicating in a nonpartisan, respectful and professional manner.
  • Handing out printed informational material for visitors and replenishing displays.
  • Recording the number of visitors and encouraging visitors to sign the visitors’ book.
  • Placing and removing temporary outdoor and indoor signage, displays and stanchions as directed. Must be able to lift 40lbs.
  • Standing for long periods and ascending and descending stairs may be required. Province House is wheelchair accessible.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing conditions will be necessary. The building routinely hosts events and meetings which may restrict access to public areas.
