About The Position

Using traditional and electronic research methods, the Legal Research Librarian provides legal research, reference, and bibliographical assistance to the courts, state government agencies, attorneys, self-represented litigants, and citizens of the state. The Legal Research Librarian is responsible for providing professional consultation to judges and court units; for providing training to lawyers, students, staff and others on the use of electronic resources such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, HeinOnline and other legal research databases; for performing periodic reviews of new and existing resources to ensure improved service and research efficiencies. The Legal Research Librarian will assist the Law Librarian in the promotion of the Law Library and four county libraries to departments within the Judiciary, state and federal agencies, students, vendors, and the public. The Legal Research Librarian will be cross-trained on other Law Library responsibilities and will be required to perform all other related duties as may be assigned by the Law Librarian. The Legal Research Librarian may be required to work in any of the Law Library’s five (5) locations.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor and/or Masters’ Degree in Library & Information Science from an accredited institution.
  • At least one year of experience in a legal setting.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work with physical collections, which requires standing, bending, lifting library materials, pushing loaded book carts, climbing stools and stairs.
  • Significant legal research experience with both print and electronic resources including Westlaw and LexisNexis.
  • Any combination of education and experience that is substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.

  • Prior library experience is a plus.
